What are Cracks and Fissures?
These are cracks in the skin of the foot at the epidermal level, but may extend as deep as the dermis. They can either be dry or moist in nature. The moist sites are usually between the toes and the dry sites are usually at the heel.
Treatment for Cracks and Fissures
Proper management of the condition should firstly involve removing the cause, for example antifungal treatment of a fungal infection such as athlete’s foot. The dry skin should be treated with an emollient and the moist skin with an astringent. If there is much hard thick skin, then gentle reduction of the thickness can be achieved with a file.
