What is Hammer Toe?
This is a condition characterised by a curling of a toe. The joint between the toe and the foot bends back (or up), and the middle toe joint bends forward (or down) giving the toe a hammer-like appearance. This can be particularly painful if corns and calluses develop on the upper surface of the toe.
Causes of Hammer Toe
The common cause of hammer toe is ill fitting shoes that force toes forward against the shoe preventing them from lying flat.
Treatment for Hammer Toe
At Happy Health Clinics we can custom build interdigital devices, and also paddings that can relieve pressure and reduce pain. The first consideration would be to change to better fitting and more comfortable footwear. These devices are made in house and can often provide fast relief.
